Spring Rainbow Trout Fly Fishing

My Uncle Bob and I had a great time fishing at Dog Gun Lake this Easter Sunday. The temperature was right around 30 degrees with 10-15 mph winds. It was quite chilly but the fish were biting. πŸ™‚ Advertisements

I think Scud has a future in dock jumping if pheasant hunting doesn’t work out for him. πŸ˜‰

Tree Planting on the Farm – 2014

Easter weekend was a great weekend to plant trees and do a little farm yard maintenance this year. We were able to plant 50 Engelmann Spruce and 150+ Silver Buffaloberry (Shepherdia argentea) bushes, set three gates and board up some broken windows in the barn. After three days of sun it looks like we have a week of rain ahead, should be great for the trees. πŸ™‚ Hopefully in a few years the trees will be big enough to give the pheasants some food and places to hide.

Montana Pheasant Hunting – Opening Weekend 2013

Pheasant Hunting Eastern Montana

Pheasant Hunting Montana 2013

Well it was another beautiful pheasant opening weekend in Eastern Montana. The cool weather really helped the dogs track and not overheat. Just one bird short of our two-day limit wasn’t too bad. Β Most of the birds we harvested were fairly mature. Most other hunters seemed to have quite a few younger birds in their possession and this could be contributed to the release of many farmed pheasants in the area. Here are a few pictures from over the weekend:

New Pheasant Dog in the Family! – Scud

On January 2nd my uncle and I headed to the Great White North to pick up a new chocolate lab pup (born 11/15/2012). Β He doesn’t know how good he’s got it, or maybe he does as he seems very smart. So please welcome Scud to the family! πŸ™‚
